More Disk Drive Destruction Needed.

There Have Been More Data Breaches to Date in 2008 Than All of 2007

Disk drives and laptops given away, sold or lost have contributed to more data breaches in 2008 that in all of 2007. According to a report by Identity Theft Resource Center of San Diego, twenty-two million consumer records have been stolen in 2008.

In some cases, the data is stolen without the business being aware of the data theft. Lastly, in many cases, the theft of confidential data is not disclosed.

Federal prosecutors recently indicted 11 people alleged to have taken part in stealing more than 40 million credit- and debit-card account numbers from nine nationwide retailers, including TJX, Office Max, Barnes & Noble, Sports Authority BJ's Wholesales Club, Sports Authority and more. Secure data storage, limited access to data and disk drive destruction are resolutions to this on going problem.
